Auditory event-related potentials (P300) in epileptic patients.

Auditory event-related potentials (AERPs) were recorded during an auditory oddball paradigm in 108 epileptics and in 32 healthy controls. P300 latency varied in relationship with age only in controls. Symptomatic epileptics had significantly prolonged P300 mean latency compared to those without detectable brain lesion(s) on MR scan. Moreover, these latter patients were compared on the basis of epilepsy duration, type of seizure, seizure frequency and antiepileptic treatment; the application of a multiple regression model showed a significant relationship between P300 latency prolongation and epilepsy duration, seizure frequency and polytherapy.

MR Imaging is being increasingly used in radiation treatment planning as well as for staging and assessing tumor response. Leksell Gamma Knife (R) is a device for stereotactic neuro-radiosurgery to deal with inaccessible or insufficiently treated lesions with traditional surgery or radiotherapy. Seasonal differences in ventricular proliferation of adult Gallotia galloti lizards.

Lizards present neuronal production throughout the telencephalon in their adult state, both naturally and after experimentally induced brain lesions. As in birds, lizards present seasonal behavioural variations. In birds, such variations have been shown to alter neuronal production. In birds and mammals, lack of stimuli or exposure to stress interferes with adult neurogenetic capacity. The effect of this type of study has not been performed with lizards. Neurocysticercosis with a single brain lesion in Germany: a case report

Neurocysticercosis is rare in Western Europe and a high degree of physician awareness is necessary for diagnosis. We describe a case of Neurocysticercosis with a single brain lesion acquired in Germany in which only surgical removal and subsequent histological examination allowed diagnosis whereas diagnostic investigation yielded no pathological findings.

We compared single-echo T2-weighted fast spin-echo (FSE) magnetic resonance imaging and conventional spin-echo (CSE) T2-weighted imaging in the detection of brain lesions of multiple sclerosis (MS). 16 patients with clinically definite MS underwent brain imaging at 0.5 T with T2-weighted single-echo fast spin-echo (FSE) and conventional spin-echo (CSE) sequences. We compared T2-weighted fast spin-echo (FSE) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and conventional spin-echo (CSE) T2-weighted imaging in the detection of brain lesions of multiple sclerosis (MS). 20 patients with clinically definite MS underwent brain imaging with both FSE and CSE T2-weighted imaging. There was no significant difference in total number of lesions detected on FSE vs CSE (1354 vs 1378).
